Restarting the comic

If you’re one of the like 5 people who’ve followed my comic over the years, you’re probably surprised to see actual, regular content beyond random sketches of the characters or the odd continuity-vague strip again for the first time in quite a long while!

I really am feeling excited and enthusiastic for the comic and just art in general in a way I haven’t for years! I think a big part of it is that my wife got me an iPad Pro with Apple Pencil for my birthday a couple years ago and it really changed my life. She did the research on what the best mobile art setup would be and gave me the gift of drawing back.

The iPad Pro and Apple Pencil are amazing. I can do everything, from rough sketch to full digital color pretty much anywhere; being able to work on coloring a drawing while sitting on the couch watching TV or out in the backyard on a nice morning instead of cloistering myself away in my “studio” room to work on a desktop is truly life changing. I switched to a laptop when I updated my computer, as well, and since I do a lot of final tweaks and assembly in PhotoShop, I can do that on the couch as well!

The other thing was that I realized that it wasn’t that I didn’t have anything to say with these characters anymore, it’s that I’m at a different place in my life and I kinda said a lot of what I wanted to at the point they were in. So I brought them a bit closer to me, a bit further down the road and it just clicked. I wanted to keep them young enough to still be kinda cool and idealized and mostly still in their prime but old enough to be a little more sure of themselves and who they are.

Here, you can kinda see me feeling out my style after a long time away and figuring out how I wanted characters to look.

I can also afford to do things now like pay for a better website, pay for some advertising to actually get people reading, pay for a new…okay, I can afford this. I paid off all my debt and am in a much better financial situation, so I can afford to do this a bit better.

For a long time, I was having trouble starting any kind of drawing, and lately, I’ve been having a hard time stopping! As I write this, I’m 3 strips ahead and I am hoping to maintain that pace and keep putting out new content for quite a while! In fact, I am feeling the creative energy to the point of doing some behind-the-scenes stuff in a blog. Like this! So check this space after you check the comic for possibly some extra stuff!

Extra stuff like rough drawings and peeks into my sketchbook!

I want to say thanks to the longtime readers who’ve followed me for so long and for any new readers who think what I’m doing is all right. The encouragement I’ve gotten from some of you has been really great, a kind word to an artist you like really can go a long way!
